Mould, poor air quality, illness among staff, and more mould have been the cry of workers in both private and public sector locations. The AT&LU had to act swiftly and decisively to protect the health and welfare of workers but also having due regard for essential and sensitive operations of the workplace.
Our newly revised occupational safety and health clause addresses: schedule cleaning of air conditioning units; periodic deep cleaning of the workplace; information sharing specifically employers’ obligation to share reports of test conducted and recommendations; mutual responsibility to keep the workplace clean and free of rodents and/or cockroaches.
The OSH standards established by the AT&LU are attainable; effective in protecting the workers’ safety and health and can be monitored for violations.
